Planning Your Match Day

Written by Puja Singh, MD

I remember being in the beginning era of COVID trying to maneuver virtual rotations, virtual interviews, and virtual match day. I remember being overwhelmed and anxious for a variety of reasons but, I also remember feeling anxious about the celebration of match day/match week. I wanted to plan something memorable, that would celebrate my friends, family, and their accomplishments, as well as my own. This post is entitled how to plan the “perfect” match day; yet, the irony is that there is not 1.

As you go into match week and match day, think about what is important to you, who is important to you, and what brings you joy and happiness.

  • Do you wish to celebrate alone or with others? If it is with others- do you wish to be with friends, family, or both?

  • Where do you wish to be when you find out? Do you prefer somewhere alone or public?

  • Did you couples match? Do you wish to be with that person during the moment?

Get ready for this next phase of life, and the next stage of your career. Take the pressure off yourself to have the “perfect” match day, to have the “perfect” result, or to match at your #1 place. You have worked hard for years to get to where you are and making it to this day is a tribute to all your hard work and dedication.

Most importantly remember to celebrate and be proud of yourself!
